What?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 8:59 pm

So, lemme get this straight.

If a bunch of politicians (including some fake republicans) decide they don’t “like” a valid contract executed between private citizens, but there are no contractual principles that would permit them to render the contract unenforceable, they can SEIZE the proceeds of the contract by using the Tax Code against those individuals as a punitive measure?

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

  2. If you’re only now getting worried about the IRS, and what can and can’t be done with our so-called tax code, you’ve got some catching up to do.

  3. Don’t fret, Jim. The affected individuals have probably spent the day on the horn with the accounting firms that represented Rangel, Daschle and Geithner.

  4. Don’t you find it somewhat comforting that our Congresscritters can hone in like a laser beam and filch the cash right out of the wallets of folks they deem not worthy? Wonder who’s next?

  6. Everyone who voted for this needs to be voted out.

    I find myself saying that a lot these past couple of months…

    that, and “I need another drink.”

  7. As if we weren’t disgusted with these douche bags enough already. First, they (specifically) allow the bonuses in the bill, then try to act indignant when the taxpayers raise hell about it.

    To quote a modern philosopher, “They should all be dragged off and shot.”

  8. Duh!! Jimbo, in the era of the Presidentainment, and like the Judges on American Idol being able to negate the vote, of course this would be logical and not a big deal.

  9. Actually I said that very thing to my husband last night… only not in legalese speak. This has been the scariest thing I’ve seen to date. Our country runs on contracts. It continues to work on the assumption that once a valid contract is signed, it is followed. Once that is no longer true – everything will fall apart. Everything. Geeze.

  10. And they said the Bush administration shredded the Constitution. {sigh}

  11. Considering that the government now owns AIG, those bonuses should never have been approved in the first place. Taxing them may be the only way for taxpayers to get their money back.

  12. Kevin, maybe those contracts shouldn’t have been approved — but they WERE, and need to be honored if our legal and tax systems are to mean anything.
