The Name Game.
Our friend, Mostly Cajun, regularly posts birth announcements from his local newspaper, which include the name chosen by the parent(s) for the newborn. The names never cease to amaze me, and invariably cause me to wonder whether some people should procreate.
As a special treat, he has assembled some of the gems from the past year and invites his readers to vote for the Name of the Year.
Here are but a few samples:
Toi T’Anthony E’Quan
La’nah Hoklue’ a Lauree
Ja’Myah Ja’Nae Sh’Nyiah Shante
As you can see, apostrophes are quite hot this year.
Go check them all out and cast your vote.
I thought my hometown paper was weird for posting nicknames in obits, but at least they never went for apostrophe abuse. And to think I used to pity the Welsh.

Majestic names all – but this commenter really made it for me:
My old dad’s favorite story was about the multi-mother’s answer as to what her cherrun’s names were. She named them all Tyrone. When questioned, she said that she only had to say, “Tyrone, come eat.” “Tyrone, come inside.” When asked what she did when she only wanted one of the cherrun, she said that she would call them by their last name! Amen . . .

Well, if you want you’re kids to grow up hating you, this is a good way to go about it. When the parents get old and decrepit and euthanasia is an option, well then……they’re toast…

My wife (Jackie) used to work at a baby deliverin’ place.
One of the wimmen liked her bedside manner so much that she proudly announced she was naming her newborn after my wife.
Retaining that ‘sisterly’ flair, the child is now name Jacquisha.

Think of the YEARS of explaining ahead of all those beings. Every teacher. Every phone call.
“No, it’s lowercase m, then an apostrophe, then another apostrophe. No, two apostrophes — then a lower case a — then a space, then one more apostrophe, space space, and then a capital D at the end. Then a new word . . . “

Don’t forget Limonjello, Oranjello, and Shithead (pronounced “Shy-THEED”).
