  2. Good old Top Secret. They’ve been around forever and then some. If you are into marching percussion, hit up the DCI website or the Vic Firth website.

Back in the day, I was always a big fan of the Bridgemen from Bayonne, NJ. Of course they have been gone for a long time. Actually, they are still around but only as an alumni corps for weirdos who could never assume real life after they aged out of DCI.

I haven’t kept up with DCI in forever, but when I was in HS in the early 80s, it was about all I ever thought about.

    Check it out.

  3. […] listening to this video of the Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel, Switzerland (brought to you via ParkwayReststop).  I love this stuff, it takes me back to my days in the Watchung Hills Regional High School […]

  4. Oh man, thanks for this, Jim. A real picker-upper — it should give me enough juice to get up the stairs to bed.

(Let it be known, I think they need some brass. Maybe a dozen sousaphones. Yeah.)

  8. Dang! I forgot it was DCI season!!! I wanted to take my boys to see a competition this summer. Crap!

That was amazing. I don’t know if people get it… it’s not just the musicianship, it’s the stepping, the height, the stick height, all uniform… when the sticks are an extension of the human. I think the drummers I knew slept with their sticks…

  9. I counted exactly two dropped sticks. Awesome.

  10. I have seen videos of these guys before – they are incredible. Like the Silent Drill Team it’s thrilling to see the precision and the tremendous talent. I can’t imagine the amount of work that goes into the show. I’m thinking they even do this in their sleep.

Oh how I wish I could do stuff like that. Well – even just being able to do a simple beat on a drum in the right timing would be good for me. LOL.
