Jekyll Update.
Well, I finally got around to arranging for my “wheels†for the boozefest Georgia Writers’ Workshop on Jekyll Island. I got it through Priceline.com for less than beer money. I’ll be arriving at the airport at 11:32 AM. If you see a lost-looking sorry ass wandering around the airport with “suitcase and guitar in hand,†that would be me.
Next, I have to hit Mapquest to find out how to get from the airport to “Ground Zero†on Jekyll Island. Frankly, that makes me nervous, because, as I told people asking for directions to Da Jersey Blogmeet, I can barely find my ass with both hands. I can see myself taking a tour of Alabama.
It’s easy Jim…promise. Just keep heading toward the water……..
Hell, if I can make it cross country with no directions – you can do this. I’m sure.
If not…..I’ll keep my eyes open for ya. I’ll be heading north that day!

” a lost-looking sorry ass wandering around the airport with a suitcase and guitar in hand…”
Sort of like an aging Arlo Guthrie “Coming into Los Angeles”, or maybe something like Willie Lowman in “Death of a Blogging Salesman”. I myself would prefer a Keith Richards-look, walking with a Parliment hanging from your lip, muttering swear words, telling people to f*** off.
Say it ain’t so, cuz. Not Lawrence Welk goes South…

The “suitcase and guitar in hand” line is from Paul Simon’s “Homeward Bound,” which The Fabulous Smith Brothers intend to perform for your listening enjoyment at the workshop.
Jim, just get on I-95 north and follow the signs. From the Jax airport, you are less than an hour (or thereabouts) away from Jekyll Island. When you turn onto the island and cross the bridge, have $3.00 ready to pay a toll to get on board.
Go to the end of the main road— you can’t miss the end— if you go any farther, you’ll be in the Atlantic Ocean— and turn right.
The Day’s Inn is right there.
Trust me (BWHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!) I wouldn’t lead you astray.
