Yes, horses have a very social type structure in herds and once the heirachy is established it is followed until the coup. But it is also very socialist. Once a leader, or rescuer, is established, they are like lemmings, out of the sea, in this case. I’ve worked with them all my life and they never cease to amaze me.

Haven’t you ever been down to Chincoteague to watch the annual Pony Penning? They drive the horses across the Assateague Channel into town for a carnival and auction. My dad used to take me when I was a kid.
