Home Safe.
About 11 months ago I attended a Going-Away Party for my friend Lou, who was then on his way to Iraq with his Army Reserve Unit. For us “older†farts, it was a bit of nail-biter, because SFC Lou, who is my age, had already managed to survive a year in Vietnam, and yet there he was headed back into “the shit.â€
I am happy to say that Lou has returned home safe and sound and convinced more than ever that the American Press just doesn’t get it.
I had the honor, along with about 99 others, to attend Lou’s Welcome Home Party tonight. A humble, soft-spoken man, Lou has now answered the call twice, and he is prepared for yet another round, should that be necessary.
I am honored, beyond words, to be his friend.
Welcome home, Lou.
I am honored to share a country with men like him. Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to this great man.

My heartfelt thanks to Lou, and to all the men and women serving our country.

I’d like to add my thanks, and my pride in sharing a country with men like him.
And I wish the military had been willing to consider those of us just below his age group without prior military experience… even as janitors. I’m sure I’m not the only one who asked.

I’m with you on that Kathy K. I’d willingly take the oath and man a pbx or a computer terminal anywhere in the world (and I do mean anywhere), if it meant being able to serve.
Hua to your friend Lou, Jim. He’s a better man than most.

I’d like to add my “Thank You” to those above.
As a Viet Nam era veteran of a “seasoned” age, I wish I could be allowed to rejoin the service and lend whatever aid I could. Damn that “Age 35” rule. I could still drive a truck with the best of them, and if nothing else I could help with the tanks and APC’s they have to transport stateside.
